My sliding gate derails, is it serious?

Yes, to be dealt with quickly otherwise the complete structure can be damaged. Often it is the rollers (wheels) that are worn or the rack is misaligned. Replacement of rollers, cleaning and straightening of tracks, realignment of the rack.

My gate strains and trips the circuit breaker — what should I do?

Cut the power before anything else. The cause is often mechanical (seized hinges on a swing gate, blocked rollers on a sliding gate) which forces the motor. Diagnosis: lubrication + replacement of the mechanical part + motor check to ensure it has not been damaged.

Can an existing manual gate be motorised?

Accepted Answer

Yes, on swing or sliding gates. Prior technical study to check compatibility (condition of hinges/tracks, nearby electrical supply). Installation of Somfy, Marantec, BFT, Motorline motorisation depending on the model, with mandatory safety photocells and remote controls.

My sliding gate rack is bent after an impact, does it need total replacement?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily: racks are installed in 1 or 2 m sections and only deformed sections need to be changed. We remove the warped section, install a compatible nylon or steel rack (BFT, Came, Nice), realign with a laser level and readjust the 24V motor's pinion. Silent sliding restored.

My swing gate actuator is leaking oil, is it repairable?

Accepted Answer

Rarely: a leaking hydraulic ram has worn seals or piston, and repair costs more than a new ram. We replace with a BFT Igea/Phobos, Came Ati or FAAC 412 ram compatible with your original fixings. The control board is reused in 90% of cases.

My BFT or Marantec gate control board no longer responds to remote controls, is it a breakdown or hacking?

Accepted Answer

Much more often a 433 MHz radio receiver failure than a hacking attempt. Humidity in the casing, blown fuse or corrupted memory. We diagnose, replace the receiver or motherboard (BFT Libra, Marantec Comfort, Motorline) and re-pair all remote controls. Rapid intervention in the Centre and South areas.

My gate photocells no longer detect obstacles, is there a risk for children?

Accepted Answer

Yes: faulty photocells = unsecured gate, liability incurred in case of accident. We replace with compatible wired or radio cells (BFT Desme, Came DIR, Nice Era F), align and test the reversal scenario. Mandatory for all EN 13241 compliant motorisations.

My gate backup battery only lasts for 2 openings, is that normal?

Accepted Answer

No, the 12V/1.2 Ah batteries of BFT, Came, Somfy motorisations have a lifespan of 3 to 5 years. Beyond that, the capacity drops sharply. We replace the original battery and test the autonomy: a new battery should allow 8 to 10 operations in case of a power cut. Check included with every maintenance visit.

Can Somfy io-homecontrol compatibility be added to an existing BFT gate?

Accepted Answer

Yes, via a universal receiver or an io interface (Somfy izymo IO for dry contact). We connect the interface to the control input of the BFT board, pair it with TaHoma or Connexoon, and keep your original remote controls. Your gate becomes controllable from the Somfy app without replacing the motorisation.
