Can a misted double glazing unit be repaired?

No. Internal fogging means the seal of the spacer bar is broken: the argon gas has escaped and moisture has entered between the two panes. Only replacing the insulating glass unit solves the problem — the frame and window remain in place.

My window handle spins freely, what should I do?

Accepted Answer

It's often the tilt-and-turn espagnolette bolt that is broken (Winkhaus, GU, Roto, Maco, Siegenia). Quick like-for-like replacement of the espagnolette bolt and adjustment of the closing pressure to restore the seal.

It's a classic: the reversing carriage of the hardware (Winkhaus, GU, Roto, Siegenia) became misaligned when the handle was turned with the sash wide open. We re-engage the mechanism, replace the stay if bent, and adjust the closing pressure on the eccentric keeps. Short intervention, without removing the sash.

My triple insulating glazing has lost its argon — is it visible to the naked eye?

Accepted Answer

Yes when the leak is advanced: condensation between the panes, distorted reflections, a cold sensation near the glass. The argon gas escapes when the butyl/polysulphide seals of the warm-edge spacer bar fail. Only replacing the insulating glass unit restores the original Ug coefficient — the PVC or aluminium frame remains in place.

My Hoppe handle has become loose, can I change it myself?

Technically yes, but a loose handle often hides a worn espagnolette bolt or a broken spindle screw on the hardware side. We replace the Hoppe handle like-for-like (standard 7 mm spindle) and check the espagnolette bolt's spindle to avoid a callback within 3 months. My Schüco aluminium sliding door rubs on the floor, what should I do?

Most often the running carriages are fouled or worn, and the bottom EPDM seal has been crushed. We remove the sash, replace the set of Schüco/GU carriages, re-lubricate the stainless steel track and install a new brush seal. Sliding becomes fluid again on a sash weighing up to 200 kg.

Between 30 minutes and 1h30 per window depending on the hardware brand and access. A simple adjustment of hinges and keeps takes 20 minutes; a complete replacement of a Winkhaus or Roto espagnolette bolt takes approximately 1h. On-site diagnosis in 15 min included in the travel fee.

Can a PSK (parallel tilt-and-slide door) over 10 years old be repaired?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in 85% of cases. PSK GU, Winkhaus and Roto carriages remain available as spare parts for ranges launched after 2005. We dismantle the carriage, replace the ball bearings or the complete assembly, re-grease the rail and readjust the parallel espagnolette. If the sash exceeds 200 kg, two technicians will be required.
